July 28, 1930 – December 24, 2017
Louis G. Perry, 87, of Edina passed away Sunday, December 24, 2017, at the Knox County Nursing Home in Edina, Missouri. He will be terribly missed, forever loved, and remembered always.
Born July 28, 1930, in Tampa, Florida, he was the fourth child of Louis Goebel and Cecilia Anthony Hussey Perry. Louis married Donna Dee Throckmorton, daughter of DeHone and Roberta Throckmorton in 1958. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, his parents, one brother, and one sister.
Surviving are his three daughters, sons-in-law, and four grandchildren: Laura and Joe Pipta of Knox City, Missouri and granddaughter Alexandra Rose Pipta of New York, New York; Rhonda and Steve Schlumpberger and grandchildren Andrew, Jarod, and Ashley of San Diego, California; and Lucinda Perry Jones and Matt Jones of St. Louis, Missouri. Louis is also survived by his sister, Mary Foster White and her husband, Donald, of Troy, Pennsylvania, along with much-loved nieces and nephews.
Louis was born and raised in Tampa, Florida and graduated from Jesuit High School in 1947. Motivated by service to his country, he joined the Merchant Marines as a teenager, then later served in the National Guard. In 1952, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and trained at Parris Island, South Carolina. He became a section chief of the 105mm Howitzer during the Korean War and achieved the rank of staff sergeant. Following military service, Louis worked at the Boyle Motor Company in the parts department.
He first met Donna at a Tampa, Florida restaurant while on a lunch break. After a short engagement, the pair were united in marriage on June 21, 1958, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They lived in Florida only months before deciding to return to Donna's family farm in Knox City, Missouri, to farm with her uncle, Howard Throckmorton.
Louis was gifted with many talents, and he was never content with mediocrity. He worked tirelessly with Donna and the entire family to build and manage a thriving farm business. He was a member of the Knox City American Legion and St. Joseph Catholic Church. Louis was known for his generosity, his love of football and politics, and long conversations with family and friends around the kitchen table. His legacy will live on through the many lives that he touched.
